FORDHAM??S MICHELLE SCHLICHTIG NAMED ATLANTIC 10 SOFTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Fordham University freshman pitcher Michelle Schlichtig (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 16th it was announced today. Schlichtig helped the Rams win the Dukes Invitational held at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia this past weekend. She picked up three wins on the mound for Fordham while also hitting .500 (6-12) with two doubles and two RBI in the tournament. In the championship game, Schlichtig threw six innings of four-hit ball, striking out two, and she also delivered a bases loaded, two-run, single to break a 1-1 tie in the fourth and lead Fordham to a 3-1 win over James Madison University for Fordham??s first spring tournament win of the year. The right-hander also picked up a win in the first game of the tournament, throwing six innings in a 6-5 win over St. Francis (PA) and picked up her second win of the weekend in a 1-0 pitcher??s dual win over the University of Maryland-Baltimore County where she allowed just three hits and struck out five. She also went 2-for-3 with a double at the plate in the win over UMBC. On the year, Schlichtig is 5-2 on the mound with a 1.29 ERA. She has 23 strikeouts in 48.2 innings, allowing just one earned run over her last four outings (18 innings). At the plate, she is hitting .378 (14-37) with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBI. Fordham stands at 7-7 on the year and will next be in action on Tuesday, March 18th as they open play at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Florida by facing Fairleigh Dickinson University and St. Peter??s College.
