Nine members of the 2002 Fordham University football squad were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced by Carolyn Schlie Femovich, Patriot League Executive Director.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the seven League-sponsored fall championship sports.
Fordham finished the season with a 10-3 overall record, 6-1 in the Patriot League. The Rams advanced to the NCAA I-AA playoffs for the first time in school history, defeating Northeastern, the Atlantic 10 champions, in the first round before falling to Villanova in the quarterfinals. The ten wins are the most on the I-AA level for Fordham (the previous best was 7 last year) while the six Patriot League wins is the most wins in the league for the Rams (the previous best was 5 last year). The Rams finished the year ranked 12th in the nation in the final Sports Network Top 25 poll and 15th in the final ESPN/Sportsticker poll.
A total of 510 student-athletes were named to the League's Fall Academic Honor Roll, including 20 with 4.00 GPAs. The Fall Academic Honor Roll includes the sports of men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
