MOBOLAJI AKIODE NAMED ATLANTIC 10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Fordham University senior forward Mobolaji Akiode (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week it was announced today. Akiode becomes the first Fordham women’s player to earn Player of the Week honors since Nailah Wallace won the award on December 18, 1999. On the week, Akiode helped Fordham to its first back-to-back Atlantic 10 wins since the 1999-2000 season by scoring 51 points on 63% shooting from the field (22-35) and grabbing 15 rebounds this past week. In the first win of the week, a 67-41 win at the University of Rhode Island on February 9th, she scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added five assists and four steals. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Rams, who won an Atlantic 10 road game for the first time since January 13, 2000. Akiode followed that game with a career-high 32 points and eight rebounds in a 57-50 win over St. Bonaventure. Against the Bonnies, she hit her first eight shots of the game and finished converting 14 of her 23 field goals. On the year, Akiode is averaging a team-high 17.1 ppg and 5.4 rpg. She also has 43 assists, 34 steals and ten blocks. Akiode ranks second in the A-10 in scoring with her 17.1 ppg. Through 24 games, she has scored in double-figures in 21 contests, including three 30+-point performances. Earlier this year, she became the eighth player in Fordham women’s basketball history to score more than 1,000 points and record over 500 rebounds. The two wins place Fordham at 12-12 on the year, 3-8 in the Atlantic 10.
