(December 8, 2003) - Fordham Softball Coach Bridget Baxter announced the signing of four recruits today as pitcher Rachael Wiggins (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley), utility player Allison Twarowski (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), shortstop Laura Klaiber (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), and second base/outfielder Karly Gonzales (Tempe, AZ/Xavier College Prep) will suit up for the Rams in 2005.
Wiggins, a senior at Susquehanna Valley High School, is a two-time NFCA/Louisville Slugger High School All-American, being named to the Second Team in 2003 and the Third Team in 2002. Last season, she was named the New York State Player of the Year, helping her team to a 27-2 record and a top ten ranking in the country. She finished the season with a 22-2 record, a 0.13 ERA, and 240 strikeouts in 165 innings pitched. Wiggins has also been a three-time selection to the All-State, All-Region, and All-Conference First Teams.
Twarowski, a senior at Cherokee High School, was the 2003 Star Ledger New Jersey State Player of the Year, after hitting .570 with 33 runs scored, 14 RBI, and setting the single season high school hits record with 53. A First Team All-State, All-South Jersey, and All-County selection, she helped Cherokee to the 2001 and 2003 Group 4 State Championships.
Klaiber, a senior at Shenendehowa High School, was the 2003 Shenendehowa Offensive Player of the Year, while being named to the All-State Class A Team and helping Shenendehowa to the 2003 High School Class A State Championship. She was selected as a First Team All-Star by the Surburan Council and the Troy Record, and was a Saratoga Dream Team First Team pick.
Gonzales, a senior at Xavier College Prep, is a three-time member of the Desert Valley All-Region team. She was an Honorable Mention pick in 2003, while being a First Team pick in 2001 and 2002. In 2001, she was selected as the Best Offensive Player, while also being the recipient of the AIA Scholar Athlete Award in 2001 and 2002.
Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
