(November 3, 2003) ?C Fordham University senior running back Kirwin Watson (Sunrise, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for games of November 1st.
Fordham, the 2002 Patriot League Co-Champions, picked up its seventh win of the year with a 34-10 Patriot League win over Georgetown University on Saturday. The Rams, ranked 19th in the latest Sports Network poll, are 7-2 overall, 2-2 in the Patriot League.
Watson rushed 34 times for 200 yards and five touchdowns in the win, the second 200-yard game of his career and the seventh 200-yard game in Fordham history. Watson's five rushing touchdowns ties the Patriot League and Fordham single game record, a record that Watson had also tied previously this year with five rushing scores against New Haven. The five rushing touchdowns also ties Watson's Jack Coffey Field record that he set in the New Haven game. Lehigh's Rahib Abdullah set the Patriot League record against Cornell in 1995 while Chip Kron originally set the Fordham mark against Georgetown in 1985. The five scores also brings Watson's career total to 46, extending his Patriot League career record (the old record was 40 set by Lehigh's Erick Torain from 1987-90).
On the year, Watson has carried 242 times for 1,212 yards and 18 touchdowns. The 18 touchdowns ties his school record, set last year, while he is 255 yards away from tying his single season rushing mark of 1,467, also set last year. Over his career, Watson has rushed 873 times for 4,352 yards and 46 touchdowns, all school records.
Watson will make his final appearance on Jack Coffey Field this Saturday as the Rams host Holy Cross in a Patriot League game at noon.
