(October 19, 2003) - Fordham University junior Corey Dunfey (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) was named Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week for the week ending October 19th. She shares the honor with Megan Cox of Richmond. Dunfey is the fourth different Fordham player to earn a weekly honor this season, as Beth Purcell was named Player of the Week last week, while Sarah Hopkins and Natasha Kayulu have each earned Rookie of the Week honors. This is also Dunfey's second career Atlantic 10 honor as she earned Rookie of the Week once as a freshman.
Dunfey, who was named to last week's Elite Team of the Week by Soccer Buzz Magazine, helped Fordham to a 1-0-1 record this weekend, as the Rams pushed their conference record to 5-0-2 in the Atlantic 10, good for sole possesion of first place in the conference. Dunfey had two goals this weekend, both coming in the Rams' first ever win over UMass on Sunday . She has now set career highs this season with six goals and seven assists for 19 points, as well as setting new scoring standards for Fordham defenders. Dunfey, along with Purcell, have also tied the Fordham record for assists in a single season, set by Corrine Jankowski in 1999.
The Fordham Women's Soccer team is currently 9-3-2 overall on the year, and is unbeaten in their last nine games (7-0-2). The team is also receiving votes in the Soccer Buzz Northeast Regional rankings for the first time ever. Fordham will be in action this week on the road with Atlantic 10 games against Xavier on Friday, October 24th at 7:00 PM and against Dayton on Sunday, October 26th at 1:00 PM.
