(January 27, 2003) - After competing at the Terrier Classic in Boston, MA and breaking two school records this weekend, Fordham senior Stephanie Irvin (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) was named Atlantic 10 and ECAC Women??s Indoor Track & Field Co-Performer of the Week for the week ending January 26. She shares the A-10 honor with Dayton senior Jodi Borges and the ECAC honor with American's Samia Akbar.
Irvin takes home her first Performer of the Week honor after breaking the Fordham record for the indoor 400m in a time of 57.97, good for 18th place out of 68 runners at the Terrier Classic. The old record was held by Cortney Boccardi, who ran 58.05 in 1998. Her time is also the fastest in the Atlantic 10 this season. Irvin now holds the Fordham record for both the indoor and outdoor 400m race.
Irvin also anchored the women??s 4 X 400 relay team, consisting of Carolanna Hanna, Grace White, and Christina Scott, which broke the school record as well in a time of 3:56.38. The previous record was 3:57.76 in 1996 by Boccardi, Vanessa Bell, Dawn Simpson, and Molly Davenport. The relay team??s time is also tops in the Atlantic 10.
The Fordham Indoor Track & Field teams will next be in action on Saturday, February 1, as they participate at the Metropolitan Championships, held at the New York Armory.
