Fordham University Head Football Coach, Dave Clawson announced the signing of 19 football
players to letters of intent with Fordham for the 2002 season.
Clawson, the 2001 Patriot League Co-Coach of the Year, led the Rams to a 7-4 overall record last year, 5-2 in the Patriot League. The 2001 season was the first winning season for the Rams since they made the move to the NCAA Division I-AA level in 1989. The 5-2 Patriot League was good for third place, Fordham’s best-ever finish in the league.
Eight 2001 Rams were recognized as All-Patriot League players last year including sophomore running back Kirwin Watson and sophomore wide receiver Javarus Dudley. Watson became the first Ram on the I-AA level to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season as he led the Patriot League with 1,076 yards last fall while Dudley became the first Ram receiver to record over 1,000 receiving years in a
season with 68 catches for 1,073 yards.
The Rams will open their 103 rd season of varsity football on Saturday, September 7 th when they host St. Peter’s College on Jack Coffey Field at 1:30 p.m. Fordham is entering its 13 th season as a member of the NCAA Division I-AA Patriot League.
