(December 16, 2002) - After competing in the Christmas Classic this past weekend, four Fordham indoor track and field athletes won all of weekly Atlantic 10 honors for the week ending December 16. Senior Deric Zaphire (Bronx, NY/Fordham Prep) and junior Christina Scott (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) were tabbed with men??s and women??s Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, respectively, while freshmen Pat McLane (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep) and Stephanie Luther (Indianapolis, IN/Pike) won the men??s and women??s Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week.
Zaphire takes home his first Performer of the Week honor after capturing first-place in the 500m (1:05.3), while falling just short of qualifying for the IC4A Championships. He also ran a leg on the winning 4X400 relay team as well that evening. Scott earns her second career Performer of the Week as she took first in the 200m (26.0 seconds) and fourth in the 60m dash.
Luther picks up her first A-10 honor after placing third in the 800m in a time of 2:25.0, while McLane got the honor after finishing third in the 3000m run (9:23.7).
Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
