FORDHAM SIGNS LATOYA CHALMERS FOR 2003-04

(December 11, 2002) - Fordham Women's Basketball Coach Jim Lewis announced the signing of one recruit today as the Rams signed 6-1 forward LaToya Chalmers (Toronto, Ontario/Laurinburg Prep (NC)). Chalmers is currently attending Laurinburg Prep in North Carolina where she currently averages 14 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks a game. She was a two-time League MVP, All-League, and All-Province selection while attending Cedarbrae Collegiate Institute in Ontario. In her three seasons at Cedarbrae, Chalmers averaged 27.3 ppg, 11.3 rpg, 2.7 bpg and was named Freshman of the Year in her inaugural campaign. She played her senior season at Riverdale Baptist in Maryland, where she scored 12 points with 11 rebounds on average. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
