JV TEAMS FALL TO NASSAU CC

(Nov. 8, 2002) - The Fordham junior varsity football squad saw its three-game winning streak snapped today with a 39-7 loss to Nassau Community College, one of the top 20 junior college programs in the country, on Murphy Field. Nassau scored on its first possession to take a 6-0 lead and then took advantage of a Fordham turnover on its next possession to take a 9-0 lead on a 28-yard field goal. The Rams responded with a 60-yard drive as freshman quarterback Kirstien Olson drove the Rams downfield, completing five of seven passes for 51 yards. Olson opened the drive with a 24-yard completion to Aaron Dennis and then followed that with an 11-yard pass to Ty Hogan. On first and ten from the Nassau 25, Olson found Daniel Haime with a seven-yard completion and then picked up two yards with another pass. On third and one from the 16, Olson gained six yards on a keeper to put the ball on the ten. Three plays later, the Rams scored on a two-yard rush to cut the deficit to two, 9-7, on the last play of the first quarter. The Lions would score on their next possession to take a 15-7 lead and again later in the quarter to take a 21-7 lead at the half. Fordham held Nassau on their first possession of the second half as Ryan Garner picked off a Lions?? pass at the Fordham 16. Two running plays by Stephen Ayers gained 13 yards but two plays later, the Rams returned the favor with Nassau returning the interception to the Fordham five. Nassau took advantage of the interception to take a 27-7 lead on a one-yard touchdown run. Fordham appeared to be driving on their next possession, moving from their own 21 to the Nassau 36 where another interception halted the drive. The Lions made quick work of the turnover, scoring on a 17-yard run to take a 33-7 lead early in the fourth. Nassau closed out the scoring late in the quarter on a 19-yard touchdown pass. Olson completed 10 of 16 passes on the day for 94 yards while Ayers rushed eight times for 53 yards.
