(November 5, 2002) - Fordham University freshman forward Jada Jefferson (Newark, NJ/Malcolm X Shabazz) was named to the 2002-03 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Preseason All-Rookie Team by the conference today, as voted on by the coaches.
Jefferson, a 6-2 forward, was selected as Player of the Year in Newark in 2002. A graduate of Malcom X Shabazz High School, she averaged 12.3 ppg and 10.1 rpg in the 2001-02 season. She was selected to the Adidas Top 100 Camp and as a Honorable Mention All-American by Street and Smith??s her senior year. She was also nominated for the McDonald??s All-America Team.
A First Team All-State selection her senior year, Jefferson was a Second Team All-State her junior year, helping Malcolm X Shabazz High School to a 22-3 record and claim the Watchchung Conference Championship. The team also captured the Newark Christmas Tourney Championship and the North Public School Championship, while also becoming a New Jersey Sectional Semi-Finalist.
