(Nov. 18, 2002) ?C The Fordham University football team appeared in both the ESPN/Sportsticker and Sports Network NCAA I-AA Top 25 polls. It is the first time the Rams have appeared in the top 25 since making the move to the NCAA I-AA in 1989.
Fordham is ranked in a tie for 24th with Massachusetts in the latest ESPN/Sportsticker poll while they are 25th in the Sports Network poll.
The Rams are currently 8-2 overall on the year, 5-1 in the Patriot League. The eight wins are the most for a Fordham team on the NCAA Division I-AA level and the most overall since the 1988 team went 9-2. The five Patriot League wins ties Fordham??s league-high, accomplished last year when the Rams finished 5-2 in the league.
Fordham travels to Bucknell this Saturday to close out the regular season. A win for the Rams would clinch their first ever Patriot League championship. If the Rams and Colgate finish in a tie for first, both teams will be declared co-champions with a tie-breaking procedure used to determine the league??s automatic bid to the NCAA I-AA playoffs. Right now the Rams hold the tiebreaker due to their 40-31 win over Colgate on September 14th.
