FORDHAM??S KEVIN EAKIN NAMED PATRIOT LEAGUE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

(Oct. 7, 2002) ?C Fordham University junior quarterback Kevin Eakin (Coral Springs, FL/Douglass) was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for games of October 5th it was announced today. Eakin completed 21 of 25 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns in Fordham??s 41-10 Patriot League win over Georgetown University on Saturday. The 376 passing yards was the fourth best single-game total in Fordham history. He completed 14 of 15 passes for 218 yards and one touchdown in the first half. All three of his touchdown passes were to junior wide receiver Javarus Dudley (Miramar, FL/American Heritage) and covered 26, 59 and 63 yards. Eakin has now passed for more than 300 yards in three games this year, including the past two straight (he threw for 302 yards at Fairfield on September 28th). He had the first 300-yard game of his career against Colgate in week two, passing for 320 yards. Eakin has tied the record for most 300-yard passing days in a season with Matt Georgia who had three 300-yard games in 1999 and Joe Moorhead who had three 300-yard games in 1995. Moorhead also holds the school career 300-yard game record with four such games in his career. On the year, Eakin has completed 97 of 151 passes for 1,403 yards and eleven touchdowns. He leads the Patriot League with an average of 280.6 passing yards/game and in all-purpose yards with 277.4/game, which ranks him 13th in the NCAA I-AA. Eakin is also the second ranked quarterback in the Patriot League according to passing efficiency with a 159.0 rating, eight best in the NCAA I-AA. Fordham??s win over Georgetown was the 700th varsity win in Fordham??s 104th varsity season. The Rams become the 14th team to reach the 700-win club, the fifth I-AA team.
