DAN McGRATH NAMED PATRIOT LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

(Oct. 28, 2002) ?C Fordham University junior defensive back Dan McGrath (Webster, NY/Webster) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for games of October 26th it was announced today. McGrath recorded a career-high 14 tackles, 12 solo, as the Rams defeated Lafayette College in a battle of undefeated Patriot League teams on Fordham??s Jack Coffey Field. McGrath, who won Rookie of the Week honors after his first collegiate game in 2000, keyed a Fordham defensive effort that stopped the Leopards when they were approaching the red zone and preserve the 33-26 triumph. On the year, McGrath has compiled 40 total tackles, 23 solo, which is second best on the squad. The win puts Fordham in sole possession of first place in the conference with a 3-0 record, the first time the Rams have led the league this late in the season. Fordham will put the league lead on the line again this week as they host Lehigh University, two-time defending Patriot League champions and currently 2-1 in the league. The game will be televised live by the YES Network. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women??s varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
