Michael Roberts has been a member of the Fordham University athletic department in a number of capacities, and currently serves as assistant athletic director for intramural and club sports where he is responsible for all facets of the school’s intramural and club sport programs.
 
After serving as an assistant rowing coach/head novice coach for seven years at Fordham, Roberts assumed the position of intramural and club sport coordinator in 2005 and was elevated to assistant athletic director in 2012.
 
Roberts arrived at Fordham after serving for a year as the assistant women’s coach at the University of San Diego. At USD, Roberts was in charge of recruiting and training the novice squad. His women brought home the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship bronze medal in the 4+ event.
           
Roberts got his start in coaching with the Redwood High School novice boys’ squad, in Larkspur, CA. He has had success at both the high school and collegiate level. His crews have medalled at the California Junior Rowing Association Championships, San Diego City Championships, and the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships. Several of Roberts’ athletes have gone on to successfully represent the United States in international competition on the junior and senior national teams.
           
Originally from Huntington Beach, California, Roberts was a four-year lightweight rower at Humboldt State University where he led his crews to the medals stand at the Cascade Sprints, Northwest Regional Championships, and the Western Sprints (precursor to the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships). He has served the United States Rowing Association as a representative of the Junior Men's International Committee and as Southwest Regional Field Service Coordinator.
