Lauren Holden was announced as Fordham women's basketball's newest assistant coach in the Summer of 2021, returning to the program after graduating in 2019 and serving for two seasons as an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson under former Fordham Associate Head Coach Angelika Szumilo.
Holden's name will be familiar to any fans of the program in recent years as she became Fordham's all-time leader in minutes played (4,492) and helped lead the Rams to the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship during her senior season. A two-time team captain, Holden appeared in 132 career games, second-most all-time, with the third-most starts, 117, finishing her career with 1,141 career points, ranked 18th all-time, the third-most made three-pointers, 213, and the fourth-best career free-throw rate, 85.3%. As a junior, Holden set the single-season minutes played record at 1,333, which was fourth-most in all of Division I that year. The next season, Holden led the nation in minutes played per game, 38.6, and was fourth again at 1,311 total minutes. She was also named the Al Carino Girls' Basketball Club of South Jersey College Player of the Year.Â
At FDU, Holden served as an assistant coach and the director of basketball operations. In her first season with the Knights, FDU won their first Northeast Conference Tournament game since 1992, and this past year, the Knights put together a fantastic 16-8 campaign with a 12-6 conference record, the most league wins since 1993, seeing a program record four players earn NEC All-Conference honors. Due to COVID-19 issues, however, only seven Knights were active for their conference tournament loss to Mount St. Mary's, which saw Holden serve as head coach with Szumilo unable to be on the sidelines.Â
