Alex Mellin, former assistant athletic trainer at UMass Lowell, was named assistant athletic trainer at Fordham University in March of 2021. He will serve as the primary contact for the Fordham men's basketball and golf programs.
 
Mellin served as an assistant athletic trainer at UMass Lowell in 2019-2020 where he covered the baseball and men’s soccer teams. He provided cross-coverage of team practices and treatments, troubleshooting of ideas with fellow staff regarding student-athlete healthcare, and developed strategies for growth and innovation for the Athletic Healthcare Department.
 
Prior to his time at UMass Lowell, Mellin spent two years working as a part-time athletic trainer at Long Island University Brooklyn where he was primarily responsible for the care of the baseball and men’s soccer teams. While at LIU, he obtained NASM certifications as a corrective exercise specialist and performance enhancement specialist.
 
In addition to his work at LIU Brooklyn, in the summer of 2018, Mellin served as the certified athletic trainer for Army West Point’s hockey camp. Previously, he also worked as an ATC/Clinical Fitter at OrthoCare Medical Equipment, LLC in Burlington, Vt.

A native of Andover, Mass., Mellin completed his bachelor of science degree in athletic training from Sacred Heart University in 2016, and earned his master of science in exercise science from LIU Brooklyn in 2019.
