Ronald Ramon HS 21

Ronald Ramon

A Bronx native and former collegiate standout at Pittsburgh who enjoyed an 11-year professional career, Ronald Ramon completed his third season as an assistant coach at Fordham in 2023-24.

This past season, Fordham continued to lay the foundation for future success.  The program picked up a number of notable wins, including a victory over reigning NIT Champion North Texas at Barclays Center, the program’s first-ever road win at Saint Louis, a triumph over eventual Atlantic 10 Champion Duquesne at a sold-out Rose Hill Gym and the team’s third Atlantic 10 Tournament win in as many years.  Kyle Rose earned his second straight to the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team, becoming the first player in program history to earn a spot on the team more than once.

During his second year with the program in 2022-23, Ramon helped the Rams author one of the college basketball’s best stories, as Fordham enjoyed its finest season in more than three decades.  The Rams finished with a record of 25-8, tying for the second highest win total in team history.  Included in that was a 12-6 conference mark, setting program records for both Atlantic 10 wins and winning percentage.  The Rams tied for second in the final regular season conference standings and claimed the no. 3 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship, both of which were program-bests.  After moving past La Salle in the quarterfinals, Fordham advanced to the A-10 semifinals for just the second time in program history.

In addition to Keith Urgo being named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, three Rams garnered end-of-season individual honors from the A-10.  Darius Quisenberry was named to the All-Conference Second Team, Khalid Moore earned a place on the All-Conference Third Team and Kyle Rose grabbed a spot on the All-Defensive Team.

In his first year at Fordham, Ramon helped the Rams to an amazing turnaround, as Fordham recorded a 16-16 overall record, a 14-win improvement from 2020-2021. The Rams won a second round Atlantic 10 Tournament game and reached the Quarterfinals for the first time since 2007 and opened Atlantic 10 regular season play 2-0 for the first time since joining the conference in 1995. The Rams finished the season ranked 41st nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency according to KenPom, the highest rating in program history.

Ramon began his coaching career in 2019 at his alma mater, Pittsburgh, joining the staff as an assistant director of basketball operations after concluding an 11-year professional career.

Ramon’s professional playing career included stints in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Venezuela. He also represented the Dominican Republic from 2009-19, competing in a number of international competitions including the 2014 FIBA World Cup and 2019 FIBA World Cup.

A 2008 Pitt graduate, Ramon finished his collegiate career with 1,096 points, 254 rebounds, 339 assists and 100 steals, while helping the Panthers to a 101-35 record overall, four NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2008 Big East Tournament Championship. The Bronx native remains ranked in the top 10 at Pitt in career three-point field goals (4th – 233), three-point attempts (4th – 590), three-point percentage (7th - .395) and assist-to-turnover ratio (5th – 2.04:1).

Ramon averaged 6.8 points per game and made 43 three-point field goals to earn Big East All-Freshman Team honors in 2005. He went on to average 8.0 or more points per game in each of the next three seasons, including a career-best 8.8 points per game while shooting 45.1 percent (74-of-164) from three-point range as a junior.

Ramon and his wife, Reba, have two children Ronald Jr, and Raiden. Reba was a softball standout at Pitt earning second team All-Big East honors as a senior in 2011. She finished her career as the school record holder in runs scored (147) and walks (101), and in single-season runs scored (47), walks (35) and triples (6). She was also listed second among the all-time leaders in career home runs and triples as well as single-season doubles and stolen bases.
