Tim Zetts, a former Akron quarterback, begins his third season on the Fordham coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2011. He will again guide the Rams’ running backs in 2014.

Last fall, senior Carlton Koonce, a preseason All-American and a Walter Payton Award nominee, became just the second Ram to rush for over 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons, finishing the year with 1,462 yards. He led the Patriot League and was 16th in the NCAA FCS in rushing average, earning First Team All-Patriot League honors for the second straight year. Koonce closed out his career with 3,283 yards, second on the Fordham career rushing list.

In his first year at Fordham Zetts guided Koonce to a school -record 1,596 rushing yards and First Team All-Patriot League honors. Koonce averaged a Patriot League-best 145.1 yards/game, which was the fourth-best in the NCAA FCS, and he also led the Patriot League, and was sixth in the NCAA FCS, in all-purpose yards/game (173.5). He also caught 48 passes, second best on the team, for 313 yards and two scores.

In 2011, Zetts was in charge of the running backs and assisted with the kickoff return, punt return and field goals units at IUP, helping the Crimson Hawks to a 7-3 mark and having junior running back Harvie Tuck named to the First Team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West squad after rushing for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns on the season. Tuck was third in the PSAC in rushing, and moved into fifth place on the IUP all-time rushing charts after gaining over 1,000 yards on the ground for the second straight season.

Prior to his stay at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Zetts was a member of the football staff at California University of Pennsylvania in 2010 and the University of Akron from 2008-09.
While with the Vulcans in 2010, Zetts worked closely with offensive coordinator Walt Harris, former head coach at both Pitt and Stanford. Zetts was involved in weekly game planning, helped create a West Coast-style playbook, assisted with the offensive line and running backs, and recruited the Northeast Ohio region. He helped the team win a share of the conference championships and earn a bid to the NCAA Div. II playoffs.

At Akron, Zetts served as an offensive student assistant and assistant quarterback coach in 2008 and 2009. While a member of the Zips coaching staff, he worked with Harris and current Fordham head coach Joe Moorhead and also served as the game day signal caller and was the strength and conditioning coach during summer workouts.

A 2009 graduate of the University of Akron with a degree in business and organization communications, Zetts was a backup quarterback for the Zips when they won the Mid American Conference title in 2005, before leaving in 2007 to compete for the starting job at Saginaw Valley State. He returned to Akron in 2008 after an ACL tear to begin his coaching career.
