Nate Slutzky, who served as a player development coach at Rutgers in 2009, is in his sixth year at Fordham in 2015. He will serve as the special teams coordinator, a position he began in 2013, and be responsible for the cornerbacks again this fall after guiding the outside linebackers his first two years at Rose Hill.

Last fall, both starting cornerbacks, Jordan Chapman and Ian Williams, earned First Team All-America honors along with placekicker Michael Marando while punter Joe Pavlik garnered second team accolades. Statistically, the cornerbacks were a part of a defense that led the NCAA FCS in turnovers gained as the unit accounted for 21 interceptions, third best in the NCAA FCS and tops in the Patriot League. Fordham also led the Patriot League and was 21st in the nation in defensive passing efficiency.

On special teams, Marando set the school single season PAT (64) and career field goal (48) marks while leading the Patriot League and ranking sixth in the NCAA FCS in field goals/game (1.50) and the Rams were second best among all Patriot League schools in punt return average (11.7).

In 2013, Slutzky led a unit that intercepted 21 passes, tops in the Patriot League and third overall in the NCAA FCS, as the Rams led all of the NCAA FCS with 40 turnovers gained. Two Ram cornerbacks were named All-Patriot League with Ian Williams, who led the league in passes defended, earning First Team honors and Jordan Chapman Second Team accolades.

11025Slutzky also served as the Special Teams Coordinator for the Rams in 2013, helping Fordham lead the Patriot League and rank seventh in the NCAA FCS in punt return defense and place second in the Patriot League in net punting average. Both Fordham kickers received All-Patriot League accolades in 2013 with placekicker Michael Marando, who led the league in field goal percentage and field goals made, earning first team honors and punter Joe Pavlik, who was third in the league in punting average, being placed on the second team.

In 2012, cornerback Ian Williams earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors after leading the team with five interceptions and six pass deflections, both second best in the conference.
The previous fall, Slutzky coached outside linebackers Andre Delaire and Nick Womack, who combined to make 129 tackles, including nine for loss, and three interceptions. Delaire ranked second on the squad with 81 total stops while Womack was seventh with 38.

In 2010, Slutzky directed the Fordham outside linebackers, including Bryson Wilson and Nick Womack, who combined for ten tackles for loss as the Rams’ defense ranked third in the Patriot League and 41st in the NCAA FCS in rushing defense.

At Rutgers in 2009, Slutzky worked closely with the offensive coaches, players and academic staff as the Scarlet Knights earned a bid to the St. Petersburg Bowl after finishing the season with an 9-4 record.

Prior to his stint at Rutgers, Slutzky was the outside linebackers coach and assistant special teams coordinator at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, from 2007-09, serving under former Fordham assistant coach John Marzka. His responsibilities included managing, evaluating and correcting the outside linebackers, strong safeties and nickel backs from practice and game film and assisting in preparing defensive game plans. Slutzky also served as the video coordinator for the Lions. He also was the junior varsity defensive/special teams coordinator, assistant recruiting coordinator, assistant strength/conditioning coach and academic coach.

Slutzky received his start in coaching at his alma mater, the University of Colorado, in 2007 where he was a football operations assistant. He was in charge of evaluating prospects on film, hosting visits, creating recruitment material for home visits and mailings and organizing database, film, and preparing recruiting board.

A 2007 graduate of Colorado, Slutzky received a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in economics.
