Biography

A 2014 preseason All-Patriot League selection... named to the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Wide Receiver Award Watch List… a Second Team All-Patriot pick at both wide receiver and kick returner in 2013… became just the second Fordham receiver to record two 1,000-yard seasons… second on 2013 team in receptions and third in receiving yards… tied school record with 14 touchdown receptions… second on the Fordham career receptions list and third on the receiving yards list… also showed his punt returning skills in 2013, returning two punts for more than 80 yards, including a school-record 84-yard return… led Patriot League and was eighth in the NCAA FCS in punt return average in 2013… a three-year starter… earned First Team All-Patriot League honors at wide receiver in 2012 and Second Team accolades as return specialist… became just the third Fordham player to amass more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season… had seven 100-yard receiving games in 2013… led Rams in receptions and receiving yards in 2012… led Patriot League in receiving yards/game in 2012… had a solid first season at Fordham in 2011, leading all freshmen receivers in receptions and receiving yards… a First Team All-District pick in both football and basketball in high school… high school friend is current PGA golfer Jordan Spieth… named to the 2012 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

2013: Started all 14 games as a junior… named Second Team All-Patriot League at wide receiver and kick returner… had 89 receptions for 1,094 yards and 14 touchdowns… tied for team lead and tied school record with 14 touchdown catches… fourth in the Patriot League and 19th in the NCAA FCS in receptions/game (6.4) and fifth in the league in receiving yards/game (78.1)… second on the Fordham career receptions list (197) and third on the receiving yards list (2,629)… led Patriot League and was eighth in the NCAA FCS in punt return average (8.0)… finished with eleven catches for 133 yards versus Lehigh… caught eight passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns at Lafayette… caught eight passes for 73 yards and three touchdowns at Colgate while also returning a punt 81 yards for a score… grabbed eight passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns versus Columbia… hauled in eight passes for 83 yards and one score versus Holy Cross… made seven catches for 73 yards in first round NCAA FCS Championship game against Sacred Heart… hauled in seven passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns in the opener with Rhode Island… made six catches for 92 yards against Bucknell… also had six catches for 55 yards and one score at Georgetown… had seven receptions for 40 yards and one touchdown and returned a punt a school-record 84 yards at Saint Francis… grabbed three passes for 41 yards and one score at Temple… made three receptions for 50 yards at Yale… made two catches for 16 yards versus Villanova.

2012: Started all eleven games at wide receiver for the Rams as a sophomore… earned First Team All-Patriot League honors at wide receiver and Second Team honors as a return specialist… led the 2012 Rams with 72 catches for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns… ranked fourth on the Fordham single-season reception list and fifth on the receiving yards list and became just the third Ram to accumulate more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season… led the Patriot League and was 18th in the NCAA FCS in receiving yards/game (94.7) and ranked third in the league and 22nd in the NCAA FCS in receptions/game (6.5)… had seven 100-yard receiving games, including a career-best 187 yards on 14 catches in the season finale with Colgate… the 14 receptions in the Colgate game tied the Fordham single-game record while the 187 receiving yards was the seventh most in a game in school history… returned 31 kickoffs for 713 yards (23.0 yards/return) and 15 punts for 82 yards (5.5 yards/return) on special teams… was second in the Patriot League, and 51st in the NCAA FCS, in kickoff return average and second in all-purpose yards… made nine catches for 121 yards and one score at Cincinnati… matched that with nine receptions for 130 yards and one score at Holy Cross… hauled in eight passes for a career-high 153 yards and one touchdown in the Cornell win… also had eight receptions for 123 yards in the win over Georgetown… caught seven passes for 112 yards and a touchdown at Lehigh… made seven catches for 55 yards at Columbia… grabbed five passes for 86 yards and one score in the NCAA FCS Championship game at Towson… had three catches for 100 yards and two scores versus Lafayette.

2011: Appeared in nine games as a freshman for the Rams, starting three… caught 36 passes for 493 yards… was second on team in receiving yards and third in receptions… hauled in a season-high eleven passes for 118 yards at Georgetown… made seven catches for 79 yards against Bucknell… gained 94 yards on six receptions at Lafayette… recorded six catches for 71 yards at Rhode Island… had a 58-yard reception in the season opener at Connecticut.

Before Fordham: A graduate of Jesuit College Prep in Dallas, Texas, where he lettered in football and basketball… played high school football for head coach Bob Wanderlick… named First Team 5A All-District in both football and basketball (point guard) both as a junior and senior… recipient of the Heart Award with the football team… MVP of the Plano Basketball Tournament… Named to the All-Tournament Team at the Gongaza Tournament… named District Newcomer of the Year as a junior… basketball team MVP all four years.

Personal: Son of Sharon and Scott Wetzel… has an older sister, Christine, two older brothers, Kevin and Ben, and two younger brothers, Pete and Charlie… majoring in Finance.
