Pat Porter

25262- 2019 Atlantic 10 Champions

After a brief stint with Manhattan College in the fall of 2018, Pat Porter is back for his second stint with the Fordham baseball coaching staff, having previously served as a volunteer assistant coach in spring 2018.  He starts his seventh season in 2024.

“Pat is a huge help for me, my staff, and our players. He will be responsible for a lot of the behind the scenes, day-to-day tasks of running this program. He brings high level playing experience, tremendous energy and work ethic, along with the desire to learn every day,” said Fordham head baseball coach Kevin Leighton.

In 2019, the Rams captured the Atlantic 10 Championship for the second time in program history and made its first NCAA appearance since 1998.  Fordham once again led the nation in stolen bases for the second consecutive with a school record total of 178, while also setting the modern day program record for wins in a season (38) and strikeouts (605).

In 2021, Fordham continued to develop top pitching talent, as Matt Mikulski became a unanimous All-American, a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, and the second straight Ram to be named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year.  He also became the Rams' single season and career strikeouts leader and was a second round draft pick by the San Francisco Giants, the second-highest draft pick for the Rams in the modern draft era.

For 2023, the Rams had four players earn All-Atlantic 10 accolade and put together one of the team's best offensive seasons in recent memory.  Fordham hit 56 home runs on the season, the second-most ever by the team, while the 313 runs scored and 284 RBI were both the most by the Rams since 2010.  Zach Selinger was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 at second base, while Peter DeMaria was Second Team All-League at designated hitter.  Selinger and DeMaria became the first Fordham duo to hit 10 or more home runs in a season since Mike Marchiano and Vince Lumia did so in 1997.  Fordham also had two Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selections for the first time since 2018 in Tommy McAndrews and Daniel Bucciero, while both DeMaria and Ryan Thiesse were named CSC Academic All-District.

In 2024, three players garnered All-Atlantic 10 accolades, led by Second Team All-Conference third baseman Daniel Bucciero.  Aidan Dowd earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team with Gannon Brady selected to the Academic All-Conference team.  Brady and Bucciero also picked up CSC Academic All-District honors along with Andres Perez, Tommy McAndrews, and Ryan Thiesse.

The 2025 season saw the Rams return to the Atlantic 10 Championship with their first playoff berth since 2019.  Anthony Grabau and Taylor Kirk both earned spots on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, giving Fordham five selections over a three-season stretch, while Gannon Brady and Andrew Kanellis were tabbed for the Academic All-Conference Team.  Brady also earned CSC Academic All-District honors along with Daniel Bucciero, Tommy McAndrews, Matt Dieguez, and Koen Smith.  Following the year, Bucciero became the latest Fordham draft pick, as he was selected by the Athletics in the ninth round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

In his first season on the staff, the team finished with 35 wins, the most for the program since the 2007 season, and tied for second in the Atlantic 10 standings.  The Rams also set a number of records throughout the year, which included team records for stolen bases, leading the NCAA with 169, strikeouts, surpassing the old mark by over 100 with 536, and saves (20) in 2018.  Other team records set were runs in a single game (29 vs. Saint Peter's) and strikeouts in a game (21 vs. Hofstra).

Porter came to Fordham after spending 2017 as an operations intern for the Ohio State baseball team, where he also played for the Buckeyes from 2012-15.  He was a First Team All-BIG TEN outfielder in 2015, and was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.  He has spent the last three seasons in the Astros minor league system, most recently playing for Buies Creek in the Carolina League in 2017.
