Pat Pinkman begins his third season on the Rams' coaching staff in 2017-18 as the team's pitching coach.

"I am very excited about the addition of Pat to our program.  He has been around the game at a high-level as a player, coach, and instructor," said head coach Kevin Leighton.  "He is a great fit for our players and staff, and I look forward to working with him and watching him develop our student-athletes."

In Pinkman's first season, the Rams' pitching staff broke the team record for strikeouts in a single season for the second straight year, totaling 408 and breaking the old mark of 392.  The team registered 29 wins, the most for the program since 2011, and had two members of the pitching staff drafted, as Greg Weissert went to the New York Yankees in the 18th round and Joseph Serrapica was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 24th round.

In 2017, Fordham once again broke the team record for strikeouts with 414, led by First Team All-Atlantic 10 performer Jimmy Murphy, who finished second in the league in strikeouts at the end of the regular season, and Reiss Knehr, who led the league with 86.  Murphy was then drafted in the eighth round of the 2017 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles, making it the third consecutive season that a Fordham pitcher has been drafted.  The season also marked the first time since 2011 that a Fordham player earned Freshman All-American status as pitcher Kyle Martin was honored by Baseball America and pitcher Alvin Melendez was honored by the NCBWA.15278

Pinkman joins the Fordham baseball coaching staff after spending last season at Marymount University in Virginia as their pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.  He helped the second-year program drop their team ERA by over a run, lower the team's opponent batting average by almost 20 points, and decrease the number of stolen bases against by 20.

Prior to Marymount, Pinkman served as the pitching coach at Washington University in St. Louis on two separate occasions.  He helped lead WUSTL to a 28-16 record and a 3.75 team earned run average in 2014, finishing the season ranked third in the Central Region, while in his first stint in 2012, the Bears posted a 28-14 record and made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2009.

Between those two seasons, Pinkman returned to his alma mater at Virginia Tech to finish his degree in Sociology as a student assistant coach. The Hokies won 40 games that year for just the second time since 1999, finished as the runners-up in the ACC Tournament and hosted the 2013 Regional in Blacksburg.

Prior to his collegiate coaching career, he served as vice president and lead instructor at the Pinkman Baseball Academy from 2002-11.  While there, he mentored and instructed over 200 players that have played at the college, minor league, and MLB levels.  He also assisted the national selection committee for the ABCA Pitching Coach of the Year and Tom House Teaching Professional of the Year awards.

A former standout at Virginia Tech, Pinkman was a 1998 Freshman All-American and named the Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Year. He set freshman records for wins (seven), innings pitched (89), strikeouts (81), pickoffs (10) and complete games (seven). As a sophomore, he set an NCAA Division I record with 19 pickoffs and a sophomore record with nine complete games.

Pinkman played in the Cape Cod Baseball League in the summer of 1999, starting in the Cape Cod All-Star game and earning Cape Cod Pitcher of the Year honors.
