Softball Splits Doubleheader with Saint Joseph’s on Senior Day

Rams take game one, 7-2; Hawks win game two in extra innings, 4-3

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham offense collected 12 hits in game one of today's Atlantic 10 doubleheader with Saint Joseph's, defeating the Hawks, 7-2. In game two the Rams tied the game in the sixth but Saint Joseph's scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth and held on for a 4-3 win.
 
With the split, Fordham goes to 21-25 overall, 11-10 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Joseph's goes to 23-21 overall, 12-9 in the conference.
 
Neleh Nogay and Sadira Forcucci led the Rams in game one with three hits each while Mikayla Swan drove in three runs and Holly Beeman threw a complete game, striking out five.
 
In game two Swan and Forcucci each had a pair of hits, as did Morgan Volgraf, with Forcucci driving in the tying run with an infield single in the sixth.
 
How It Happened - Game One
  • Fordham jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a three-run second, all with two outs.
  • Volgraf started the rally with a two-out single and moved to second on a Victoria Klimaszewski single.
  • A Nogay infield single loaded the bases and Swan emptied them with a double to left.
  • The Hawks scored once in the fourth and once in the fifth to make it a one-run game, 3-2.
  • The Rams scored on a Chloe Trimandilis bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth and then added three in the sixth to take a 7-2 lead.
  • Beeman made the led hold up, allowing just a single in the top of the seventh before getting a ground out to end the game.
How It Happened – Game Two
  • The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on just one hit as the first two Saint Joseph's batters were hit by pitches.
  • Fordham got a run back in the bottom half of the first on a Eva Koratsis RBI single.
  • The game remained 2-1 until Saint Joseph's scored on a solo home run in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
  • The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the sixth as Volgraf led off with a single and moved to second on a Klimaszewski walk.
  • Klimaszewski was erased at second on a Nogay fielder's choice but Nogay stole second and took third, with Volgraf scoring, on an errant throw.
  • One out later, Forcucci tied the game with an infield single.
  • Saint Joseph's took advantage of a Fordham error in the top of the eighth to score on a two-out RBI single.
  • Swan singled with two out in the bottom of the eighth and moved to second on a wild pitch but the Rams couldn't bring her around.
Notes
  • Nogay stole a base in each game to bring her team-leading total to 33.
  • Nogay, who has stolen at least one base in the last five games and in ten of the last eleven, has a school record 116 career swipes.
  • Nogay's four hits in the two games brings her career total to 239, sixth on the Fordham career list.
  • Nogay's career batting average is now .371, which would be a school record.
  • Forcucci finished the two games 5-for-8 at the plate with three doubles and two RBI.
  • Beeman improves to 4-4 on the season with her forth complete game of the year.
  • Between games, five Fordham student-athletes (Holly Beeman, Eva Koratsis, Kate McGuire, Neleh Nogay, Nicki Sudall) and senior social media manager Lillian Verdi.
What's Next?
The Rams close out the regular season with a trip to Chicago to face the Loyola University Chicago Ramblers for a three-gamer series, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2, at 1:00 p.m. (EST).
