Softball Splits Day One in Miami

The Rams defeated South Dakota, 3-0, before falling to FIU 9-1 in five innings

MIAMI, Fla. -- Olivia Simcoe was dealing on Friday, hurling a five-hit shutout to lead the Fordham Rams past South Dakota, 3-0 to split the opening day of action at the FIU Classic, falling to the hosts, 9-1 later in the day in five innings.

HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED

Coming off a no-hitter in her last start Simcoe went the distance for Fordham once again, giving up just five hits. The Rams took the lead for good in their first turn at bat, scoring twice in the inning.

Fordham opened the scoring with an RBI single from Morgan Volgraf before another run came across on Kate McGuire's single later in the inning. The Rams also added another run in the second inning on an Eva Koratsis triple to complete their scoring in the ballgame.

GAME ONE NOTES

» Simcoe tossed a five-hit shutout for the Rams.
» Volgraf compiled three base hits in the game for Fordham, going 3 for 4 with an RBI.

FIU took a 5-0 lead through two innings, and added one more in the third to lead by six. The Rams put their lone run on the board in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Volgraf, scoring Klimaszewski from third base. In the bottom of the frame, the Panthers tacked on three runs to take the win in five innings, 9-1.

» Volgraf led the Rams at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI.

The Rams take on Harvard tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. before the final two games of the weekend are determined based on the results of each teams' first three games.
