Men’s Soccer Closes Out Regular Season with 5-1 Win

Rams take down Saint Joseph’s at Moglia Stadium

Bronx, N.Y. – If the two teams competing in the Atlantic 10 men's soccer match tonight were compared to houses handing out Halloween candy, the Saint Joseph's Hawks would be the house giving away candy corn while the Fordham Rams would be the house distributing Snickers bars, the full-sized version. The Rams had more treats than tricks for their fans tonight, scoring a season-high five times in a 5-1 win over the Hawks.

With the win, Fordham closes out the regular season with a 6-7-2 overall mark, 4-3-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Joseph's closes out its season 5-6-6 overall, 1-5-2 in the conference.

Fordham freshman midfielder Rayane Tchemmoun had the best Halloween costume of the night, doing his best Cristiano Ronaldo impression, scoring twice and assisting on two others, while grad student Jason Hsu, and freshmen Marco Cantalapiedra and Gavin Flickinger each scored once.

The Rams got on the board early as Sam Delgado sent a pass into the box and Tchemmoun one-timed it past the Saint Joseph's keeper from ten yards in the ninth minute.

The Hawks knotted the game in the 32nd minute before Fordham scored in the 44th minute to take a 2-1 lead at the break. Marc-Alexandre Happi Emaga gave a pass to Flickinger on the left side who tapped it back to Cantalapiedra. Cantalapiedra dribbled around his defender and got off a blast from 15 yards to the far post for the 2-1 lead.

Early in the second half Tchemmoun picked up his second goal, taking a feed from Happi Emaga and easily beating the Hawks' keeper for a 3-1 lead in the 52nd minute.

Seven minutes later, Hsu collected a deflected ball in the box and put it in the back of the net before Flickinger closed out the night's scoring in the 68th minute, taking a long ball from Tchemmoun and going in alone on goal, beating the keeper from just inside the box.
