Bronx, N.Y. – Despite it being a day after Larry David's statute of limitations on wishing someone a Happy New Year, the Fordham men's basketball team almost gave its fans a Happy New Year but the Rams' double-doubles couldn't match the Spiders' triples as Fordham fell, 83-75, in an Atlantic 10 game in the historic Rose Hill Gym.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 9-6 overall, 0-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond improves to 11-4 overall, 1-1 in the conference.
The Rams were led by junior forward
Rikus Schulte and sophomore center
Jack Whitbourn who each collected a double-double. Schulte scored 17 points and added eleven rebounds while Whitbourn finished with 12 points and eleven boards. Grad student guard
Dejour Reaves led the Rams with 19 points and five assists while senior guard
Christian Henry added 13 points and five assists.
How it Happened
• After falling behind 28-20, Fordham went on a 5-0 run with 3:27 left in the first half, culminating in a three from
Dejour Reaves, to narrow its deficit to 28-25.
• Richmond answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Rams down 33-28 entering halftime.
• Fordham narrowed its deficit to 35-32 before going on a 7-0 run to seize a 39-35 lead with 17:47 to go in the contest on a Reaves three-point pay.
• The Rams got the lead to six twice over the next three minutes, the final time at 45-39, following a Henry floating jumper with 14:20 remaining.
• Fordham led by five midways through the half, 53-48, after a Henry three but the Spiders responded with a 17-6 run to take a 65-59 lead with 4:40 on the clock.
