Syracuse, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team traveled north today to face Syracuse University, falling to the Orange, 6-1, at the Drumlins Country Club.
The match opened with Syracuse taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches.
Catalina Padilla and
Paola Dalmonico were victorious for the Rams at third doubles over Leena Bennetto and Constance Levivier, 7-5, but Nelly Knezkova and Anastasia Sysoeva defeated Fordham's
Nevena Kolarevic and
Julianne Nguyen at first doubles, 6-3, while Monika Wojcik and Serafima Shastova took second doubles from Fordham's
Valerija Kargina and
Lily Chitambar by the same score.
In singles play,
Aya Matsunaga earned the point for the Rams at fifth singles, winning the first set from Leena Bennetto, 7-5, before dropping the second, 4-6. Matsunaga came back to win the tiebreaker, 10-6.
Kolarevic battled tough at first singles, losing the first set to Shastova, 6-3, before coming back to win the second, 6-1. The third set was hard fought with Kolarevic falling, 7-5.
