Men’s Soccer Opens A-10 Play with Tie at Rhode Island

Luke Pompliano nets Fordham goal

Kingston, R.I. – There are three things you can count on in life. Buttered toast will land buttered side down on the floor, taxes, and a Fordham-Rhode Island men's soccer match ending in a draw. For the fourth time over the past six meetings the two Atlantic 10 Rams played to a draw at one goal each in the conference opener for both squads.

With the tie, Fordham goes to 3-2-2 on the year while Rhode Island goes to 1-3-2.

How it Happened
• Fordham broke the 0-0 tie when Luke Pompliano scored his first goal of the season in the 20th minute, assisted by Daniel D'Ippolito.

• The home Rams responded to tie the game on a goal from Theo Harris in the 74th minute, assisted by Sebastian Berntsen.

Notes
• Grad student keeper Tristan Stephani totaled three saves for the Rams and allowed his first goal of the season (in three games)

• The assist was D'Ippolito's team-leading fifth of the year.

• D'Ippolito has at least one point in five of the seven matches this year.

• D'Ippolito now has 57 career points, eleventh on the Fordham all-time list.

What's Next?
• The Rams continue Atlantic 10 play with a trip to the Nation's Capital to face the George Washington University Colonials on Saturday, September 20, at 3:00 p.m.
