Water Polo Ranked #3 in Preseason National Poll; Open Season at Bruno Classic This Weekend

Four-Time Defending MAWPC Champions Once Again the Favorite in 2025; Rams To Play Four Matches This Weekend Highlighted by Games Against #9 Pacific & #18 Harvard

Bronx, N.Y. – (August 29, 2025) – Coming off its finest season in program history, the Fordham water polo team has reloaded for another season and looking for its fifth consecutive MAWPC Championship and making another run at a national championship.
 
The CWPA National Preseason Poll has Fordham at #3 in the country, behind only defending national champion UCLA and the team that knocked the Rams out of the national semifinals, USC.  In the MAWPC, Fordham is once again the preseason favorite to win the league.
 
OPENING WEEKEND
  • The Rams start the 2025 season at the Bruno Classic, hosted by Harvard and Brown University
  • On Saturday, Fordham is at Harvard for matches against MIT (11:30 AM) and #18 Harvard (5:00 PM)
  • Sunday's matches at Brown will feature Fordham against #9 Pacific (10:30 AM) and LIU (3:00 PM)
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Fordham & MIT have a long history, dating back into the 1960's, but have only played each three times over the last decade with the Rams winning all three contests, the last of which was a 26-10 win last season.
  • Fordham & Harvard's series history also dates back to the 1960's, and have met regularly over the years.The Rams have won three of the last four matches dating back to 2021 including an exciting 16-15 win last season at Rose Hill.
  • After meeting in a highly anticipated top five national match-up last year, Fordham and Pacific will meet for just the fifth time overall. In last year's contest, the then-#5 Rams took a 17-13 decision from then-#4 Pacific.
  • Sunday will be the first ever match between Fordham & LIU
 
NEWS & NOTES
  • Luca Silvestri, Brendan Cassidy, and Luca Provenziani will be the Fordham captains for the 2025 season.
  • Last year's freshmen scoring sensations, Luca Provenziani (93 goals & 67 assists) and Andras Toth (84 goals & 35 assists) are both back. Provenziani was the Rams' first ever First Team All-American in 2024 while Toth was an Honorable Mention All-American.
  • With the graduation of Third Team All-American goalkeeper Thomas Lercari, the Rams will have a new starter in net. Sophomore Kristof Magony, junior Panayiotis Giannas, and graduate student Matthew Bonello DuPuis will all see time in order to claim that starter spot.
  • Newcomer Diego Tresa made waves with the U18 Italian National Team at the 2025 U18 European Championship, as Italy finished fourth, dropping the bronze medal match to Greece, 12-11. Tresa finished the tournament with nine goals.
  • Fordham continues to be the melting pot of collegiate water polo, featuring players from eight countries including the United States, Canada, Italy, Hungary, Malta, Germany, Greece, and South Africa.
 
WHO'S NEXT
  • Following this weekend, the Rams will take part in the Princeton Invitational, September 6-7.Fordham will face defending national champion UCLA on September 6th and Santa Clara on September 7th.The Rams will also have an exhibition contest against FTC (Ferencvaros), a Hungarian-based club team that recently won the Champions League, on September 6th.
