Bronx, N.Y. – As we approach the end of the 2025 Fordham football camp we continue our position-by-position breakdown of the Rams, highlighting the last line of defense, the defensive backs.
Fordham returns a litany of experience in the defensive backfield, returning a number of players with starting experience and a number of others who have seen extensive action.
Leading the defensive backs in 2025 will be senior
Alex Kemper, who started all 12 games at corner back last year, recording 43 total tackles, 31 solo, including two for loss and one sack. He also had ten pass breakups, one interception, and one fumble recovery.
The other returning starter is senior
Trey Bradford who started all 12 games at strong safety in 2024, making 28 total tackles, 18 solo, including 1.5 for loss. He also had an interception and three pass breakups.
The other senior returning to the defensive backfield for the Rams in 2025 is
Jayln Evans, who appeared in six games as a junior.
Juniors returning to the backfield include
Mathani Paul-Swinson, who started first three games of the season before suffering season-ending injury, recording nine tackles, four solo, and breaking up a up a pass; Nate Lindsay-Gill, who appeared in six games as a sophomore, making three starts and making 16 total tackles, seven solo, including 0.5 for loss; and
Justin Johnson, who saw action in four games as a sophomore, registering six total tackles, five solo.
Returning sophomores include
Boogie Owens, who appeared in eleven games as a freshman, making seven starts at safety. He recorded 37 total tackles, 20 solo, including 0.5 for loss and also had two interceptions and five pass breakups.
Other sophomores who are back include
Terrence Jones II, who appeared in all 12 games as a freshman, making six total tackles, three solo;
Drew Minich, who saw action in eleven games as a freshman, starting two at safety and recording 15 total tackles, seven solo;
Amaurey Brooks, who appeared in four games as a rookie;
Beau Jako, who appeared in one game as a freshman; and
Danny Smiechowski, who did not see action in 2024.
Freshman joining the Fordham defensive backfield in 2025 include Krystian Pothal, a First Team All-ISL performer at Governor's Academy in Byfield, Mass., last year;
Alonzo Riddick, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year at Long Island Lutheran;
Deron Hall, a three-time First Team All-District selection at Brandeis High School in San Antonio;
Brayden DeVaul, a product of Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C.; and
Matt Davitt, an All-County, All-League, and All-State honoree at Iona Prep.
Fordham opens the 2025 season on Saturday, August 30, when the Rams travel to Boston College for a 2:00 p.m. contest. Join your fellow Ram fans in a
