Baseball Eliminated From A-10 Championship with Loss to Dayton

Tommy Markey Goes 2-for-3 with a Home Run and an RBI-Double for Fordham

Tysons, Va. – (May 22, 2025) – Dayton's J.J. Gatti held the Fordham Rams to one run and struck out eight, as he led the Flyers to a 9-2 win over the Rams at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship, held at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va.

Dayton got on the board first with three runs in the first innings, taking advantage of two Fordham miscues.  With two outs, Aidan Zorn reached on an error and moved to second on a walk to Mason Dobie.  Ryan MacDougall then dropped a single over the second baseman into right field to score Zorn.  Bobby Stang then lined a shot to center that was misjudged and went over the centerfielder, allowing two runs to come in for a 3-0 lead.

The Flyers tacked on another run in the second to go up four, as Rylan Lujo singled home Dynerson Wouters from second.

The Rams got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh, when Tommy Markey lined a solo home run over the right field wall for his third of the season, making it 4-1.

Dayton answered with a four-run rally with two outs in the eighth to extend the lead to 8-1, highlighted by a two-run single by Michael DiMartini.

Markey continued his strong showing in the championship, recording an RBI-double in the eighth, scoring Tommy McAndrews who also reached on a double.

The Flyers tacked on one more run in the ninth for the 9-2 final.

For Fordham, Mike Rabayda (2-6) took the loss, allowing one earned run over seven innings of work with three strikeouts, while at the plate, Markey finished 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and two RBI.

The loss ends Fordham's season at 25-33.
