WASHINGTON – Falling in heart breaking fashion on a pair of walk-off hits Saturday afternoon, Fordham University Softball fell to No. 2 Saint Louis, 2-1 in eight innings, and 4-3 in seven innings in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship finale.
In yet another low-scoring affair in this A-10 Championship, both starting pitchers stole the show for their side, keeping the game scoreless through four full innings of play. Fordham took the lead in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Nicki Sudall, ahead of a two-run shot by the Billikens in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
Down to their final out in the seventh, the Maroon and White worked a pair of runners on before Kate McGuire drove in the game tying run from second to send the game to extras, before Saint Louis walked things off with a run scoring double in the eighth inning to force a winner take all, game 11 to decide the tournament champion.
Despite the low score the Rams racked up 11 hits in the first game of the day, including a 3-for-3 day from Sudall and a 2-for-3 outing for Mikayla Swan.
Going into game two, Fordham struck first in its first turn at the dish, as Eva Koratsis drove in Neleh Nogay to make it 1-0. Saint Louis took its first lead of the day in the fifth inning on a bases clearing double to make it 3-1.
Answering in their next turn at the plate a Mallory McClellan single drove in McGuire and Erin Hoppe to level the score at three, before the Billikens walked things off with the bases loaded in the seventh to take the win, 4-3 and claim the A-10 title.
Despite the loss, the Rams ends the season 30-26, tied for their most wins since the 2022 campaign. Sydney Wells, one of four seniors on this year's squad, ends her collegiate career with 149 career RBIs and 90 career walks, placing her fifth and seventh respectively all-time at Fordham, along with 51 walks and 17 home runs this season alone, second and fourth most in a single season.
