BRONX, N.Y. – Though the final run of the afternoon crossed the plate just over four hours after the game got underway, Fordham University Softball rallied late after a rain delay Saturday to defeat George Mason 4-3 in walkoff fashion in eight innings.
With the win the Maroon and White take their seventh straight at Bahoshy Field to sweep their longest homestand of the year, improving to 10-1 at home in 2025, and seal their first sweep of a multi-team homestand since 2019.
Now four games over .500 overall at 20-16 on the year, the Maroon and White defended home turf over the last week, outscoring St. Bonaventure, Stony Brook, and George Mason by a combined 56-15 over the seven game homestand.
Fordham has now won nine games in a row, the longest winning streak since the 2021 campaign, and sit first in the league standings at 10-2 in the A-10 this season.
Holly Beeman captured her 10th victory of the season, tossing all 8.0 innings for the Rams striking out four batters and allowed just seven hits, while offensively Eva Koratsis tallied a pair of hits and drove in the game winning run in the eighth inning.
The visiting Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, with Fordham still searching for its first run through three innings, when the tarp was put on the field just after Noon. One hour and 58 minutes later at 2:06 p.m. play resumed with both starting pitchers returning to the circle for their respective sides.
With a pair of runners on in the bottom of the fourth, Eva Koratsis launched a towering shot to the high fence in left field, driving in two runs as the ball was dropped against the wall to level the score at two. That would hold through the sixth when a double to the center-right gap scored the go-ahead run for George Mason, who went into the seventh looking to steal a win in the series finale.
Loading the bases with two outs, Allie Clark walked to load the bases, ahead of a wild pitch to score Gianna Spinelli, who pinch ran for Sudall, sending the game to extra innings.
Beeman kept George Mason off the board in the top of the eight, and the Rams got to work quickly in the bottom of the frame, as Sydney Wells drilled a double down the right field line, ahead of Koratsis on the very next pitch to bring home the game winning run.
Hitting the road for eight of their next nine games, Fordham returns to action Wednesday with a trip to Philadelphia for a doubleheader at Saint Joseph's at 2:00 p.m.
