Softball Sweeps UMass on Senior Day

The Rams took game one 4-3 in walkoff fashion before a 9-2 win for the series sweep

BRONX, N.Y. – Taking game one of a doubleheader with UMass in walk-off fashion, 3-1, Fordham University Softball pulled away early in game two to sweep a three-game series with the Minutewomen, taking the finale 9-2.

With the win the Rams improve to 25-23 on the year, 15-8 in league play and officially clinch a spot in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Tournament, set to begin on Wednesday, May 7, hosted by George Washington.

Taking the opener Sunday afternoon, Fordham saw the visitors take a 3-0 lead through two innings, before getting a run back in the bottom of the sixth on back to back base hits by Sydney Wells and Nicki Sudall to put Fordham on the board.

Down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh, Fordham saw Mikayla Swan flip the lineup to the top of the order with a single, and Neleh Nogay did the same to bring the winning run to the plate.

Swinging at the first pitch she saw, Wells drilled a no-doubt line drive well over the right field wall to walk things off with a three-run home run to seal the series win and send the Rams into their senior day festivities between games.

After taking the win in game one with five shutout innings out of the bullpen for her first collegiate victory, Elizabeth Gaisior took to the circle for the Rams in the series finale as well, tossing the first 2.2 innings of game two, before Holly Beeman came on in relief for her 13th win of the season.

UMass took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but a quick answer by the Rams saw the home side post three runs on five hits in the bottom of the frame to take the lead, 3-1.

Eva Koratsis drove in another two runs in the second inning on an RBI single up the middle with the bases loaded to extend the lead, and Mallory McClellan made it 7-1 after four with a two-run double in the fourth.

Both sides added a run in the fifth, with Koratsis making it 8-2 Rams in the bottom of the inning with a single to center, before setting the final tally with a forced in run on a walk to Wells in the sixth with the bases loaded

The Maroon and White close the regular season next weekend with a trip up I-95 to take on Rhode Island in a battle of the Rams Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
