Richmond, Va. – (April 25, 2025) – VCU's Owen Tappy tossed a compete game with eight strikeouts, while Jacob Lee drove in four runs, as VCU downed the Fordham Rams, 85 at The Diamond in Richmond, Virginia.
VCU jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the second inning, starting with a four-run first. In the first inning, Jacob Lee hit a three-run home run with Sean Swenson having an RBI-single. Then in the second inning, they added another run on a balk.
Fordham answered with four runs in the third inning, closing within one at 5-4. With two outs,
Tommy Markey singled and moved to second on an error. He then came home on an RBI-single to center by
Taylor Kirk.
Daniel Bucciero followed with a two-run home run to left center, his sixth of the season. The two RBI also put Bucciero over 100 career RBI. Fordham then got three straight singles by
Andrew Kanellis,
Anthony Grabau, and
Madden Ocko to score the final run of the rally.
The score remained that way until the fifth when VCU scored three times to go ahead by an 8-4 count. Swenson highlighted the inning with a solo home run.
Fordham was able to get a run back in the ninth on a solo home run by Ocko, his third of the year, but that was as close as the Rams would get.
Aidan Dowd (3-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks over two innings.
A.J. Pino tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, while
Robbie Stewart pitched the final 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on four hits. At the plate, Ocko was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while
Tommy McAndrews also had a pair of hits.
Game two of the series is set for 11:00 AM on Saturday.
