Rams & Hawks to Play Doubleheader on Sunday at 11:00 AM

Philadelphia, Pa. – (April 12, 2025) – Saint Joseph's Alex Kelsey was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, and four RBI, while Frank Ciccone struck out eight over seven innings, as the Hawks defeated the Fordham Rams, 12-4, at Smithson Field on Saturday to open a three-game Atlantic 10 series.

Fordham (15-19, 7-6 A-10) opened the scoring in the top of the third, as Chase Hanawalt drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a single by Tommy McAndrews.  After a sacrifice bunt by Tommy Markey, Hanawalt came on a ground out by Taylor Kirk.

Saint Joseph's (14-17, 8-5 A-10) answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, as the Hawks loaded the bases and scored runs on a groundout and a sacrifice fly.

The Rams got the lead back in the fifth with Kirk doing the damage again.  With two runners in scoring position, Kirk lined a two-out single up the middle to score both Matt Dieguez and Chase Hanawalt to make it, 3-2.  The single extended Kirk's season-long hit streak to 13 games.

The Hawks responded right away again with three runs in the bottom of the frame for a 5-3 lead.  After the lead-off runner reached on an error, Alex Kelsey roped an RBI-triple to the right field corner to tie the game at three.  Carson Applegate followed with a two-run home run, his fifth of the year, for the 5-3 edge.

Saint Joseph's then broke the game open with a seven-run seventh inning to go up by a 12-3 count.  The biggest hit of the inning was a bases loaded double by Kelsey, which scored three runs.

The final run of the game came in the eighth inning for Fordham on an RBI-single by Dieguez.

Aidan Dowd (2-3) took the loss, allowing four earned runs  over five innings of work.  At the plate, Dieguez was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Kirk had a hit and three RBI.

The two teams will conclude their series on Sunday with an 11:00 AM doubleheader.
