Arlington, Va. – (March 14, 2025) – Fordham's pitching duo of
Aidan Dowd and
Robbie Stewart held George Washington to just four total hits in Friday's Atlantic 10 opener, leading the Rams to a 3-2 victory at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia.
The two starting pitchers, Fordham's
Aidan Dowd and George Washington's Michael Foltz, Jr., were solid for both of their squads. Dowd gave up a single run in the second inning on an RBI-single by Conlon Walker in five innings of work, while Foltz pitched into the eighth inning with only one run allowed in the seventh on an RBI-single by
Matt Dieguez.
However in the eighth, the Rams finally got some pressure on Foltz, as
Jack Brennan singled up the middle, followed by bunt singles by
Taylor Kirk and
Cian Sahler to load the bases with no outs. Matt Bruno came in to relieve Foltz, but Fordham picked up a sacrifice fly by
Andrew Kanellis, while
Daniel Bucciero beat out a double play to plate two runs for a 3-1 lead.
George Washington closed the gap to 3-2 on a solo home run by Tyler Acker in the ninth and got the tying run on base on a walk, but Fordham reliever
Robbie Stewart got Cristino Tufano to ground out to third to close out the win for the Rams.
Stewart (1-1) was outstanding in relief of Dowd, allowing just the solo home run in four innings of relief with three strikeouts to earn the win.
Taylor Kirk finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Kanellis was 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a sacrifice fly. Dieguez also had a hit and an RBI in the game.
In a change to the schedule, Fordham and George Washington will conclude their series on Saturday, March 15th with an 11:00 AM doubleheader due to impending weather on Sunday.
