Women's Basketball Falls to George Mason Saturday

Facing the top team in the A-10, the Rams fell 70-43

NEW YORK  – Standing tall on the defensive end in the first quarter, the league leading offense of George Mason was relentless the rest of the way Saturday afternoon, as Fordham University women's basketball fell to the Patriots, 70-43.

The Rams drop their fourth game in a row, falling to 12-11 on the year and 6-6 in A-10 play, while the Patriots continue to sit atop the league table, improving to 21-3, and 11-2 in A-10 play..

Chaé Harris paced the Maroon and White with 11 points, ahead of nine from Taya Davis. Leading the team with 10 rebounds was Irene Murua, alongside six boards from both Rose Nelson and Anastasija Veljovic, with the latter of the two also adding seven points and a team best three steals.

Holding the A-10 leaders in points per game to zero points through the first five minutes of the game, Fordham allowed just 11 points in the opening quarter, trailing by two points at the end of the first after limiting the Patriots to just 25%, shooting in the opening frame. George Mason opened the second quarter however on a 13-2 run, and broke away from there, going into the half leading 30-15.

Out of the locker room, the Patriots continued to push on offense, outpacing the Rams 21-10 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead into the final period. The Maroon and White kept pace with George Mason down the stretch, ending the game on an 11-3 run despite the setback.

Fordham will look to bounce back Wednesday with a trip to Philadelphia to take on La Salle at 6:30 p.m.
