Â
Meara, the 2011 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and the winner of the 2012 Vincent T. Lombardi Award as Fordham's top male athlete, recently announced his retirement from a wildly successful professional career that featured 12 seasons with the Red Bulls, the most by a single player in franchise history.
Â
Meara was selected 31
st overall by the Red Bulls in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, and went on to make 44 career MLS appearances with 10 shutouts.Â
Â
A 2021 inductee into the Fordham Athletics Hall of Fame, Meara earned three First Team All-Atlantic 10 selections and four NSCAA All-Region nods during his time at Rose Hill. As a senior in 2011, he posted an 11-6-1 record with a 0.65 goals against average and a .862 save percentage, the last two  of which are Fordham single-season records. With Meara anchoring the defense that season, Fordham captured its first Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship.
Â
Meara, a Yonkers native and Fordham Prep graduate, still holds the Fordham career records for goals against average (0.87), shutouts (32) and appearances (74). His .804 career save percentage currently ranks fourth.
