Women's Basketball Takes Down Saint Francis 86-61

The Rams head in A-10 play with an 8-3 non-conference record

BRONX, NY --The Fordham women's basketball team had 14 fewer turnovers than Saint Francis (PA) in an 86-61 victory against the Red Flash at home Sunday.

The Rams (8-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Alexis Black, who had 25 points and two steals. Lakresha Edwards tied a career-high with 15 points and Carryn Easley added eight points, six rebounds and a career-high nine assists.

The Fordham offense was impressive from three-point land, knocking down nine threes on 24 attempts. Edwards hit three treys for the Rams in the contest. The Maroon and White's defense held Saint Francis (PA) shooters to just 33.3 percent from the field.

Fordham committed just six turnovers on the day, while forcing 20 by Saint Francis, tied for the fewest in a game since the 2022-23 campaign against Duquesne on Jan. 14, 2023.

How It Happened

After jumping out to an 8-5 advantage, Fordham went on a 5-0 run with 6:21 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Tia Morgan, to increase its lead to 13-5. The Rams then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 21-16 advantage. Fordham got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 11 of its 21 total points.

Fordham kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 15-0 run starting at the 5:11 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 44-25. The Rams kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 49-30 advantage heading into halftime. Fordham dominated in the paint, scoring 16 of its 28 points close to the basket.

After intermission, Fordham added to its advantage and owned a 68-48 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Fordham took advantage of five Saint Francis (PA) turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways.

Fordham kept widening that lead, expanding it to 77-54 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Ugne Sirtautaite's layup, to grow the lead to 85-54 with 2:19 to go in the contest. The Red Flash narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rams still cruised the rest of the way for the 86-61 win. Fordham took advantage of eight Saint Francis (PA) turnovers in the quarter, scoring nine points off of those takeaways.
