#5/5 Water Polo Captures Fifth Straight MAWPC Championship

Luca Silvestri Named Championship MVP, while Diego Tresa Selected as Rookie of the Championship

Bronx, N.Y. – (November 23, 2025) – History was made on Sunday at Fordham's Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center, as the fifth-ranked Fordham Rams won their fifth consecutive MAWPC Championship with a 16-9 win over George Washington.
 
With the win, Fordham, now 25-3 on the year, earned the league's automatic bid into the National Collegiate Championship, which will be held December 5-7 at Stanford University.
 
THE GAME
  • After an even first quarter at 3-3, the Rams and Revolutionaries exchanged goals at 4-4 before Diego Tresa scored at the 4:38 mark of the second quarter to give Fordham a 5-4 lead.
  • A big moment in the match came with 3:21 left in the second quarter, as Fordham goalkeeper Matthew Bonello DuPuis was excluded, leaving the Rams on the penalty kill without their goalkeeper.Fordham was able to kill off the exclusion without any damage being done.
  • Fordham then netted the next three goals to extend the lead to 8-4.
  • The Rams put together a big third quarter with six tallies, three of which came from Andras Toth to put the lead at 13-7 at the end of the period.
  • Fordham then sealed the game with three goals in the final frame for the 16-9 victory.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Luca Silvestri was named the Championship's Most Valuable Player after scoring three times on Sunday.Overall, he had seven goals over the course of the tournament.
  • Andras Toth led all scorers with five goals on Sunday to go with three steals and three blocks, while Barnabas Eppel also had a hat trick.
  • Diego Tresa was named the Rookie of the Championship, as he had a goal and two exclusions drawn against George Washington, while adding a goal and two steals in the semifinal against Wagner.
  • Luca Provenziani added two goals, three assists, and five steals.
  • In net, Matthew Bonello DuPuis notched eight saves, three assists, and three steals.

  • The Rams will see who they will face in the National Collegiate Championship on Monday, November 24th, with the selection show at noon on NCAA.com.
