Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Takes Down LIU, 69-53

Rams slow down Sharks

Bronx, N.Y. – Unlike most other fish, sharks do not have a swim bladder (yes, sharks are fish classified as elasmobranchs, which is the subclass of fish that have skeletons made of cartilage). As such, a shark has to constantly move or else it will sink to the bottom of the ocean. Entering tonight's game, the Long Island University Sharks were living up to their nickname, bringing one of the fastest-paced offenses in the NCAA into the contest. But Fordham found a way to sink the Sharks, holding them to a season-low offensive output, defeating LIU, 69-53, in the historic Rose Hill Gym.

With the win, Fordham improves to 4-2 on the season while LIU falls to 3-2.

The Rams had three players score in double figures, led by grad student guard Dejour Reaves, who had 16 points and four assists. Senior guard Christian Henry tacked on 14 points, four assists and two steals and junior forward Rikus Schulte chipped in as well with a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

How It Happened
• After jumping out to a 16-13 advantage, Fordham went on a 6-0 run with 12:12 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Henry, to increase its lead to 22-13.

• The Rams then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 38-29 advantage, thanks to a buzzer-beating jumper by Reaves in the lane.

• Following intermission, Fordham kept widening that lead, expanding it to 44-32 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by a Reaves jumper, to grow the lead to 52-32 with 13:43 to go in the contest.

• The Sharks narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rams still cruised the rest of the way for the 69-53 win.

Game Notes
• LIU, who was picked to win the Northeast Conference, entered the game averaging 81.2 ppg.

• The Sharks were shooting .513 from the field entering the game but shot just .327 (17-52) tonight.

• Fordham took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 31 points in the lane.

• The Rams won despite being outscored 18-9 from the free throw stripe.

Rikus Schulte notched his first career double-double for the Rams.
