New Rochelle, N.Y. – Fordham head coach
Mike Magpayo officiated the wedding of Iona head coach Dan Geriot a few years ago. Last spring, Geriot gave Magpayo a gift in the form of grad student guard
Dejour Reaves, who transferred to Fordham from Iona. Reaves netted a game-high 22 points tonight but unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Rams fell to the Gaels, 76-71, in the Hynes Athletics Center.
With the loss, Fordham evens its record at 2-2 while Iona improves to 3-0.
Reaves added five rebounds and four assists to his stat line while senior guard
Christian Henry added 16 points, five rebounds, and six assists, and
Rikus Schulte chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
How it Happened
• Fordham led by six, 64-58, following a
Ryan Pettis three with 9:17 remaining but the Fordham offense went cold as Iona used a 13-2 run to take a 71-66 lead with 2:12 left.
• An
Akira Jacobs put back a minute later made it a three-point game, 71-68, but that was as close as the Rams would get.
Notes
• The Rams were without the services of grad student forward
Zarique Nutter, who missed the game with an injury.
• Fordham out-rebounded Iona 48-31, led by a career-high 10 boards from
Akira Jacobs.
•
Dejour Reaves returned to Iona where he played for the Gaels last year.
•
Christian Henry first started his first game of the season.
• The game was the first between the two teams since 2006.
• The all-time series is now tied, 32-32.
• The two teams were members of the MAAC from 1981-1990.
• Fordham is 197-146 all-time against schools currently in the MAAC.
