Late Goal Pushes #4 Cal Past #5 Fordham, 15-14

Fordham’s Andras Toth, Luca Provenziani, and Luca Silvestri All Record Hat Tricks

Berkeley, Calif. – (October 23, 2025) – In a highly anticipated match between two top five ranked teams, Cal's Tomas Perrone scored the game-winning goal with four seconds remaining to push the fourth-ranked Golden Bears past the #5 Fordham Rams, 15-14, in water polo action on Thursday afternoon at the Spieker Aquatics Complex.
 
With the loss, Fordham fell to 14-2 on the year, while Cal improved to 13-3.
 
THE GAME
  • Cal built up a 5-3 lead after the first quarter on the strength of four goals by Beso Akhvlediani.
  • The teams each scored three times in the second quarter to put the score at 8-6 at halftime.
  • The Golden Bears increased the lead to 11-8 by the end of the third quarter.
  • Fordham then mounted their comeback with three straight goals by Andras Toth to tie the game at 11 in the fourth quarter.
  • Luca Silvestri then scored with the men advantage for a 12-11 lead with 5:23 left.It was Silvestri's third goal of the game.
  • The two squads exchanged goals for a 13-12 Fordham advantage, but Cal's Dom Brown scored consecutive goals to put the Golden Bears back on top, 14-13.
  • Fordham then tied the game at 14 with 27 seconds left on a goal by Mark Dyck.
  • The game was decided in the final seconds, as Tomas Perrone scored with four seconds remaining for the 15-14 final score.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Toth finished with a team-high four goals, all of which came in the fourth quarter, to go with two assists, while Silvestri and Luca Provenziani each had a hat trick.
  • Alessandro Salipante added two goals for the Rams with Dyck and Barnabas Eppel having the final tallies.

  • The Rams are next in action on Friday, October 24th with an exhibition match against UC Merced as a part of the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.
