Box Score NEW YORK – Despite the scoreline showing 3-0 Saturday afternoon, it was an all-day fight by the Fordham University Volleyball team, staying close with Saint Louis for the entirety of the match in a straight set defeat against the Billikens in The Bronx.
A pair of Rams would finish in double figures on the attack, as Whitley Moody slammed 11 kills and Audrey Brown rattled off 10. Lauryn Sweeney would tally eight kills while Whitney Woodrow recorded 27 assists and eight digs, tied for the team high in receptions with Ryan Naumann.
Even at 9-9 in the first set, Fordham would tally the next three points, but saw Saint Louis tie it again on several occasions, before pulling away for a 25-19 win to open the afternoon. The Billikens would take an early four point lead, and wouldn't look back as Fordham came within a point multiple times, but never tied, and saw Saint Louis go up 2-0 with a two point win in the second set.
Taking the lead again to start set three, Fordham this time would bounce back to level the score at 14-all, and again at 18-all, but a quick run down the stretch gave the Billikens enough of a lead to take a 25-22 win in set three and sweep the weekend series to open A-10 play this season.
Fordham Volleyball hits the road this weekend with a trip to D.C. on tap for a pair of matches at George Washington Friday and Saturday.
