#9 Water Polo Extends Win Streak to 13

Fordham Records Wins over #17 Navy, George Washington, & Mercyhurst on Saturday

Bronx, N.Y. – (September 28, 2024) – The ninth ranked Fordham water polo team continued their early season dominance on Saturday, posting three MAWPC league wins at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.

The Rams are now 13-0 to start the season, which is a program first and improved to 6-0 in the MAWPC.

Fordham opened Saturday with a 17-11 win over 17th ranked Navy.

After the Rams got out to a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Midshipmen worked their way to within one, 8-7, by halftime.

The Rams then took control in the second half, outscoring Navy, 9-4, in the second half for the 17-11 final.

Luca Provenziani kept his excellent weekend rolling, scoring five goals and dishing out four assists, while Andras Toth added a hat trick.  George Papanikolaou and Luca Silvestri each scored twice with Lucas Nieto Jasny having three assists.  In net, Thomas Lercari totaled 10 saves.

Next up, the Rams took down George Washington by a 20-9 count.

It was an all-round effort with Fordham scoring 11 times in the first half, while only conceding two goals defensively, en route to the 11-goal victory.

15 different Rams scored at least one goal in the match, led by Nieto Jasny with a hat trick.  James Oriskovich, Jagger McMannis, and Toth each added two tallies with Lercari having six saves and two assists in three quarters of action.

In the final match of the day, Fordham downed Mercyhurst, 26-9.

Much like the George Washington match, the Rams distributed the scoring with 16 different players, notching at least one goal.  Nieto Jasny and McMannis each had a hat trick with Oriskovich, George Papnikolaou, West Gartland, Brendan Cassidy, Proveniziani, and Csongor Bartuszek each having two.  The Rams split up the goalkeeper duties with Lercari having two saves in a quarter of play, Kristof Magony making four saves in a quarter and a half, and Reggie Robles notching three stops in the remaining quarter and a half.

The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, October 12th, when Fordham hosts Wagner (11:00 AM) for an MAWPC match and Iona (3:00 PM) for the Annual Judge Cup match.
