Lewisburg, Pa. – (September 22, 2024) – The nationally ranked Fordham water polo team took care of business on Sunday, improving to 9-0 on the season with a pair of wins at the Bison Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa.
Fordham defeated MAWPC opponent Johns Hopkins, 28-9, in the team's morning match to go to 3-0 in league action.
The Rams continued their dominant play in the opening quarter, netting the first eight goals of the contest.
Luca Provenziani did the most damage with an opening quarter hat trick, while
Lucas Nieto Jasny scored twice to reach 200 goals for his career.
Fordham then scored eight more times in the second quarter to lead, 16-2 by halftime. George Papnikolaou had a second quarter hat trick with Provenziani adding another marker.
The team added 12 more goals in the second half for the 28-9 win. For Fordham, Provenziani recorded four goals and two assists with Papanikolaou having three goals and an assist.
Barnabas Eppel,
Jagger McMannis, Nieto Jasny,
Mark Katsev,
Tyler Fahey,
Brendan Cassidy, and
Marco Napolitano also added two goals apiece. Fordham's trio of goalkeepers each had time in net with
Thomas Lercari having four saves in the first quarter with
Kristof Magony (two saves) and
Reggie Robles (three saves) each playing a quarter and a half.
The final match of the weekend saw Fordham knock off Salem, 23-11.
The Rams led 7-4 after the first quarter, as six different Rams found the back of the net.
Andras Toth scored twice with Eppel, Papanikolaou, Nieto Jasny,
Jacopo Parrella, and Napolitano having the other markers.
Toth was just getting started, scoring four times in the second quarter and once in the third for a season-high seven goals, as he helped Fordham boost the lead to 20-7 by the end of the third quarter and eventually to the 12-goal win.
In addition to his seven goals, Toth added three assists and a steal, while Papanikolaou and Provenziani each had a hat trick. Eppel and Nieto Jasny also had two goals a piece in the game. Lercari played three quarters in net, making 12 saves, with Magony and Robles splitting the final frame.
The Rams return to the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic for their next four games, which begins with a top ten showdown with the Princeton Tigers on Friday, September 27
th, starting at 6:00 PM.
