ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – It took nearly 20 hours, but the Fordham men's soccer team opened conference play with a road result this weekend, playing St. Bonaventure to a scoreless draw in Olean.
The game began on Saturday night at 6 p.m. before severe weather caused the match's suspension in the 31st minute. The two teams resumed their contest on Sunday at 10 a.m., playing the final 59 minutes before leaving with a scoreless draw.
Carter Abbott recorded his second solo shutout of the season. It was the third clean in eight attempts this fall for the Rams, who also blanked Santa Clara on Sept. 5 and then-No. 17 Hofstra on Aug. 22.
Benji Jones, Thomas Gray, Jed Dixon and Luca Bernoth all played 90 minutes on the back line in front of Abbott.
The Rams were being outshot, 5-2, at the time on Saturday's suspension, but ended up finishing the contest with an 11-9 edge in that category. Four of the Rams' 11 chances were on target while the Bonnies managed to find the net just once.
Louis Lehr took a team-high three shots, one of which was on goal. Ede Gramberg, Daniel D'Ippolito and Luke Pompliano all logged a pair of shot attempts.
Fordham will return to action on Tuesday night with a non-conference contest at Columbia. Kick-off from Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
